However, in most instances, patients will feel warmth and some slight pressure or discomfort during their treatment, which can easily be managed with numbing cream or over-the-counter pain medication.

Chemical peels are generally safe and effective for most people in good health, with realistic expectations. However, if you are pregnant, currently take oral acne medication, or have severe cold sores, you may not be a suitable candidate. Patients with darker skin may be advised to avoid deeper peels.
